That Day the Earthquake Came

*Throwback Thursday: I’m slowly (very slowly) going to be bringing my old posts to this blog.

Just when you thought it was another normal shake
the not-so-normal shakes came in what felt like waves.

Who knew we would actually have to wear these evacuation helmets.
Who knew the building would weave back and forth until
you became nauseous from motion sickness.
Who knew you would become a Kitaku Namin (帰宅難民)
and have to find your way back home on foot.

Only to realize that the real devastation was elsewhere.
My life will return to what it was.
Tokyo will, too.
But there will be a large number of people
whose lives will be forever effected
…never to return to what it was.

That Valentine’s Day Gift

Every year I bake for my coworkers.
Apparently homemade presents are considered to be more real.
As if there’s such a thing as a fake valentine’s day gift.
Or maybe there is?
Anyways, it’s great because I love baking.
This year I made Double Chocolate Muffins for them.
The best recipe ever…
mix everything in a bowl and bake!
Easy peasy 😀

I also pulled out my craft box and made some cards
with my favorite stamp set.
(I’ve had these since I was in grade school, I think.)
Wrote a message on the back of the card,
added a vitamin drink to balance out the health factor and
…ta-daaaa!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

That New Years Family Photo

January 1st, 2011
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
It’s the year of rabbit and
our family is finally all together for new years.
Yay!
Of course, we once again took our nengajo photos on the first day of the year
when most people’s nengajo are already delivered to our post box.
So…you’ve been warned.
They will get there around the 5th…hopefully. haha.
Wishing you a great year in 2011 😀

That Wedding in DC

The reason I was in DC was because…
my best friend from grade school got married!!!
I was in the bridal party as one of her bridesmaids
which was amazing because we don’t do bridesmaids in Japan.

It was so much fun.
So great to see her get married to her love.

It was also literally a huge reunion
with friends and family who flew in for the wedding.
But I guess weddings are like that.
I can’t say it enough, it was a beautiful wedding!
More than anything though
I loved seeing how happy the bride and groom were.
Their love was radiant.

Can you believe we’ve been friends for over 20 years?
I love that even though we’ve all changed
our friendship has stayed the same.
And now our family has grown
to include husbands, too!
Wishing the bride and groom all the happiness in the world! xx
