The First Day

First day at my new department!

Got nervous

even though I know

almost everyone in my new sector.

But I’m already getting good vibes from everyone.

Think I’m going to like working here!

The department welcome nomikai was today.

These guys are crazy.

And it was all kinds of fun!

The Farewell Nomikai

Japanese companies have a nomikai for everything.

So when it comes to company shuffle season

(usually April and October for most companies)

we have tons of farewell nomikai’s,

followed by welcome nomikai’s.

And when you’re the one changing

it’s kind of mandatory that you attend.

Today was the last of the farewell nomikai’s.

The Change

Big news at work today.

Going to be working in a different department

starting on October 1st!!!

I’m excited.

And nervous.

My first time working under a woman boss.

We’ll see how it goes.

That Moment of Silence

Today we will observe a moment of silence at 2:46pm.

Last year March 11th was a Friday and I was waiting for the subway with my boss at Nishi Shinjuku Station, planning to head to a forum, when the alarmingly loud buzzer sounded, signalling an earthquake to come. And it did.

Last Friday, I was once again standing at the same station with a co-worker, heading to the same forum that I ended up never reaching last year. This year, the subway came rolling into the station and we got on, heading to the forum.

But my heart was beating a mile a minute.
